About Us

At MATCH, we believe music isn’t just background music—it’s a powerful tool that transforms care. Our mission is to help carers use music in practical, evidence-based ways, especially when words fall short.

Born from real-world aged care challenges and decades of music therapy research, MATCH combines expert knowledge in music therapy, geriatric psychiatry, and machine learning. The result? A simple, accessible platform that enriches life for carers and the people they support.

Why we created MATCH

We understand the challenges carers face every day:

  • Sometimes the person living with dementia becomes distressed or resists care.

  • The carer is unsure how to respond, or feels overwhelmed by the situation.

  • Moments that could foster connection, may spiral into frustration or disconnection.

Music has always been a powerful tool for supporting people living with dementia, but it hasn’t always been easy for non–specialists to apply it effectively in practice. That’s why we created MATCH, a simple, scalable way to bring proven music–based care strategies into everyday life.

Registered Music Therapist, Dr Felicity Baker developed the first music intervention training program for carers back in 2008.

Since then MATCH has been refined and tested for home care and residential aged care and in published clinical trials for:

  • Effectiveness and Cost-Effectiveness

  • Safety

  • Acceptability, Usability, and Affordability

  • Scalability

  • Integration into existing aged care workflows

  • Regulatory Compliance, Data Security and Privacy

Our pilot studies showed clear impact: reduced carer stress, fewer incidents of agitation, and stronger connections between carers and care recipients.
